In 2021, the 80th anniversary of the Holocaust was commemorated worldwide. To mark this painful anniversary, together with composer Jievaras Jasinskis, we decided to create something new, original and meaningful. This is how the idea of "Symphony from Jerusalem of the North" was born. I believe that God’s will to honour the cen-tenary of Jewish heritage in Lithuania has become a desire for our hearts as well and the creativity flowing from the Holy Spirit to write a script and to create music based on it has become a reality. I am grateful to God that He has united the highest-level of music professionals from Lithuania and Israel for this unique musical project. I believe that the Lord, commemorating the National Memorial Day for the Genocide of Lithuanian Jews, opened for us the gates of the inner courtyard of the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Lithuania, where the premiere of the “Symphony from Jeru-salem of the North” took place. For me, this is a great miracle and these special mo-ments will always remain in my heart.

The capital of Lithuania was once home to a large Jewish community, which is why Vilnius is called “Jerusalem of the North”. While creating the “Symphony from Jeru-salem of the North” we tried to reveal how the history of Lithuanians and Jews is closely intertwined, so we allowed ourselves to experiment with classical music by combining folklore motifs from both nations.

When you listen to this CD, forget all your worries and immerse yourself fully in a musical journey, during which the most important moments in the history of Israel and Lithuania can be discovered. This booklet is a travel guide, so when you begin listening to a new part of the symphony, read the briefly-described context and take a journey back in time in your imagination. Let the majestic sounds of the shofar take you to Jerusalem in the days of King David and may the sounding chords of kanklės (i.e. ancient Lithuanian harp) and birbynė (i.e. ancient Lithuanian wind in-strument) melodies light your way while traveling through the annals of the history of Lithuania. Let the Spirit of God reveal to you, through music, secrets that have almost been lost in the dust of history, and the melodies and rhythms of the “Symphony from Jerusalem of the North” can decode the Truth that is written deep in your hearts.

As long as in the heart, within, The soul of a Jew still yearns, And onward, towards the ends of the east, an eye still gazes toward Zion; Our hope is not yet lost, The hope of two thousand years, To be a free nation in our land, The land of Zion and Jerusalem.
